Project 1: Villa Muller

Part A: To See
Plans, sections and elevations of the villa muller

1:50 model of the representative part of the house. In my model I concentrated on the circulation of the house and the Idea of the raumplan which i felt would help to represent the whole.

Part B: Abstract And Project

Public to Private Study: Maps and highlights the relationship of public to more private spaces in the house and studies this transition as you move along the house. These zones are clearly distinguished by the use of different ceiling heights(Raumplan) and window sizes.Larger public spaces haven higher ceilings and bigger windows(use of daytime lighting) as compared to more private spaces that are given smaller windows and lower ceiling heights to make the privacy more evident.

Facade Geometry: Involves a study on the use of geometric forms as projections or alterations on the facade that result in the formation of positive or negative spaces. These positive or negative spaces then define the function of the space created. The positive spaces serve functions of being a roof terrace or a balcony, whereas negative spaces tend to form niches which give the house a more private and interesting feel.

Circulation Study: Highlights the most important aspect of the house. Circulation is a result of the Raumplan used as it makes the transition between two different spaces of two different ceiling heights practical and unobservable. The three important access or circulation routes are examined that determine the movement of the people within the house. The horizontal, Vertical and raumplan stairs all contribute to the circulate within the house.

Abstract model studying the circulation system.Where the different units represent the rooms with different heights and the transition between these spaces.
